A lecture recording is missing

Most of my classes (except for ECS188) have Lecture Capture enabled.

Lectures should be posted to Canvas within ~24h after each lecture takes place.

If this doesn’t happen, it suggests that something went wrong with the Lecture Capture service. Often we will find this out from students in the affected class.

What should TAs do?

1. Make an announcement.

Recordings affect the whole class, and the whole class should be notified about the situation. We should communicate that we are aware of the situation, that we are contacting Lecture Capture to find out what happened, and we will post another announcement if anything changes.

Here is a template you can use for the announcement:

Hi folks,

We've been made aware that lecture recording is not available on Canvas for <affected dates>. I'm not sure what happened yet, the course staff will contact lecture recording services to see what's going on. Thanks to those who notified us. We'll post another announcement if we get more information.

Best,
Gabe

2. Contact Lecture Capture Services

Send an email to: lecturecapturehelp [at] ucdavis.edu

Please cc me on the email.

Here is a template you can use for the email:

Dear Lecture Capture staff,

I am TAing for <course code> (CRN <crn number>). We've noticed that the lecture recording for <affected dates> is not available on Canvas. Lecture recording for <unaffected dates> has been working fine.

Could you please let us know if you have more information about this?

We would like to provide the students with an ETA for the recording (if it can be made available) or let them know that the recording will not be available if that's the case.

Thank you, we appreciate your service.

Best,
<name>

3. Make another announcement if you recieve more information from Lecture Capture Services

If Lecture Capture responds to your email, share the information with the class via a Canvas announcement.

Here is a template you can use if Lecture Capture cannot provide the lecture:

Dear students,

We have received an update from Lecture Capture Services regarding the missing recording for <affected dates>. Unfortunately, they have informed us that they are unable to provide the recording for this lecture due to technical issues.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Best regards,
<name>

Here is a template you can use if Lecture Capture replies with an ETA:

Dear students,

We have received an update from Lecture Capture Services regarding the missing recording for <affected dates>. They have informed us that they are working on resolving the issue and expect to have the recording available by <ETA>.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. We will make another announcement once the recording becomes available.

Best regards,
